A Critical Review of Eluveitie's Album Spirit
Eluveitie is a Swiss metal band founded in 2002. Throughout their career, they have become one of the leading artists in the folk metal genre. They have released several albums, and one of their most recent works is Spirit. In this blog post, we will take a critical review of this album, discuss the music genre, highlight some of the best songs, and discuss the most innovative parts of the album.
The album Spirit is a blend of death metal, folk music, and melodic metal. The music is rich with sound, and the way they fuse different music genres creates a unique listening experience. The LP is a combination of ten tracks which encapsulate into just over thirty minutes of pure metal bliss.
The best songs on this album, in my opinion, are Deathwalker, Threefold Death, and The Call of the Mountains. These songs show Eluveitie's ability to create metal songs that are not only aggressive but incredibly melodic, giving other folk metal bands like Ensiferum a run for their money, so to speak.
One of the most innovative parts of Spirit is the range of instruments and vocals used throughout the album. The vocals range from traditional heavy metal growling to clean vocals and spoken words. The instruments range from guitar, drums, and bass, to bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, and violins, to name but a few. The wide variety of instrument usage throughout the album adds a unique element to the music.
While there is no denying that Spirit is a well-crafted album, it's not without its criticisms. The album lacks a sense of originality, and at times, some tracks feel indistinct and repetitive with minimal changes in tone and melody. Nonetheless, Eluveitie's Spirit is not only a great folk metal album but also a solid addition to their discography.
In conclusion, Eluveitie's album Spirit is a fine example of the blend between heavy metal and folk music genres. The band's authentic use of different instruments, genre manipulation, and vocals proves that they are incredibly talented, and their music is pure ear candy. Although lacking in originality and at times repetitive, the album's combination of innovative instrumentation and Eluveitie's recognizable sound make the album worth checking out for any metal or folk music fan.
