The album featured a darker, more introspective tone than their previous hit album, and the band stated that it was inspired by personal struggles and experiences. The hit songs from this album include I Kill Giants, Hearts Like Ours, and Rolling Waves.
Two years after the release of In Rolling Waves, the band members went on a break to work on their individual projects. During this time, the band faced some challenges because of their personal struggles with anxiety and depression. However, in 2016, they regrouped and released their third album, Simple Forms. Simple Forms delivered The Naked And Famous' signature style while exploring new sounds. Some of the prominent tracks from the album include Higher, Laid Low, and The Runners.
