Still Remembering Aaliyah 22 Years After Her Death
Aaliyah, better known as the Princess of R&B or Baby Girl had a fruitful career where singing was what she always knew she wanted to do.
She started at the young age of 15 when she released her first song and same-titled album Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number in 1994. Two years later came her next record One In A Million where the first hit single on the album, If Your Girl Only Knew had achieved double platinum status. Hot Like Fire and 4 Page Letter were the other iconic hit singles that fans grew to know and love.
In 1998, it was the year of choreographing music videos for various films that were released. Aaliyah sang and performed Are You That Somebody for the Dr. Doolittle movie soundtrack. Scenes of the movie are shown in the background of the music video’s setting. In her music video performance of Journey to the Past for the Anastasia film, Aaliyah was seen at one point walking alongside Anastasia thanks to special effects.
Her last studio album Aaliyah featured the iconic hit, Rock the Boat. Filming the music video in the Bahamas and boarding an overfilled airplane is how she lost her life on August 25, 2001, when the aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff.
The first and only two films she starred in were Romeo Must Die (2001) and Queen of the Damned (2002). Aaliyah would have been 44 years old if she was still alive today. Even 22 years after her passing, artists and fans alike are still holding her legacy tight.
Aaliyah Always Knew She Wanted To Sing
Aaliyah always knew she wanted to sing for a living. When she was 10 years old, she performed My Funny Valentine for a popular show called Star Search. While she did not win this competition, she did not let this stop her from trying again. Remember her hit song Try Again?
Before she released her first record, Aaliyah performed five nights with Gladys Knight at Bally’s Las Vegas Casino at only 11 years old. That was her first professional exposure before everyone would see her three to four years later making her music albums.
