In 1991, the band released its third album, Badmotorfinger, which proved to be their breakthrough album. The album included popular chart-toppers such as Rusty Cage, Outshined and Jesus Christ Pose that topped rock n roll charts worldwide. The album showcased the band's development of a unique sound and cemented their place in the grunge-rock music scene.

The band's fourth and arguably most successful album, Superunknown, was released in 1994. The album included massive hits such as Black Hole Sun, Spoonman, and My Wave that introduced Soundgarden to a global audience. The album won two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance in 1995 for Black Hole Sun and Best Hard Rock Performance in 1996 for Spoonman. The album proved to be the pinnacle of the band's career and Soundgarden's most commercially successful album.

Soundgarden disbanded in 1997, only to reunite in 2010 and release their final album, King Animal, in 2012. The album spawned hit songs such as Been Away Too Long and By Crooked Steps that showcased the band's staying power over the years. The band has since confronted with the death of Chris Cornell, the band's lead vocalist in 2017, and disbanded in the same year.
